Useful Guides on Shopping for Printer Paper

If you ever need to print something, you would usually need a functional printer complete with printing supplies like ink and paper. Ink is injected or smudged on the paper to make the desired patterns, texts, or images. Ink and paper must work together to create the best possible output. Replenishing ink supply is relatively easy because you just need to know the type of printer you have to order the appropriate ink. However, if you are having troubles with buying printer paper, here are useful pointers for you.

Before anything else, ask yourself what printer you own and what you want to print. If you own an ink-jet printer, you must buy printer paper that is compatible to use for such device. Otherwise, check if what you have is a dot-matrix, laser printer or something else.

Step two, determine what weight of paper you like to use. Weight here is actually paper or area density, which means mass per unit area. It is expressed in grams per square meter or in pounds of a ream. Ordinary paper is 20 pounds and works with practically all types of printers. The higher the number of paper density, the heavier the paper, of course. Card stocks are usually 60 to 100 pounds or more.

If the prints are for important projects, use ink-jet stock for a crispier and smoother result. If you are printing photos, use a photo paper, a coated stock that is smooth and stiff. For this, you can either use matte photo paper or glossy photo paper. However, buy special archival paper and ink if you want the printed photos to last long. Meanwhile, colour laser printer paper is never ideal for ink-jet printer or non-colour laser printer.
